From record-breaking heat to increasingly destructive storms, the Gulf Coast is on the frontlines of intensifying weather and climate extremes. But what’s really driving these changes—and how do they affect our energy systems?
Early career professionals are invited to join us on September 24, 2025 at Greentown Labs for a thought-provoking Lunch & Learn exploring how natural climate variability is compounding with climate change to produce more severe and less predictable weather patterns along the Gulf Coast.
Our featured speaker, Isabelle Bunge, Postdoctoral Fellow in Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Rice University, will share insights from her research on the dynamic drivers behind extreme weather events—such as hurricanes, flooding, and heatwaves—and what these trends mean for the future of energy infrastructure, grid resilience, and climate adaptation in the region.
Isabelle brings deep expertise in atmospheric dynamics and tropical convection, as well as current work examining the broader implications of climate extremes for public health and energy systems.
Check-in begins at 11:45am, with the presentation starting at 12:15pm. A brief networking opportunity will follow the discussion.
Lunch (pizza) will be provided.
Special thanks to Greentown Labs for hosting the event!
